July 24, 2011 Newsletter

The weather was very hot and humid on Saturday for setup. A big thanks to all of those that helped to setup the match. It was a little more reasonable on Sunday morning, but only 34 shooters showed up for the 8:00 AM squad. That put a little crimp in my plans. I had setup the match to see if we could run the squads faster without the Texas Star. Also, the match was Revolver friendly (thanks for showing up with your wheel gun Matt!). And with Tom Revolinsky running the early registration, I thought we could get started early (we did) and finish on time (we almost did). It wasn't a true test, but things did run a little quicker. I'll try again next month. And bring the revolvers in August. I'll try revolver friendly once more.

Also, we do have a Safety Area and it will be setup on the east end of the pistol bays (by the 5-Stand). Also, if you carry concealed, please use the 200 yard range to unload before coming to the pistol bays. Just make sure that no one is downrange before you clear leather.

We had  50 shooters and 14 reshoots for a total of 64 guns. Here's the breakdown by division.

We had two (2) new shooters this month: Scott Katz and Robert Fellenstein.

We have Crooked Creek Conservation Club applications. Ask Tom, Ed or myself for one if you are interested in joining. We hold a pistol practice on Wednesday evening starting about 4:30~5:00 PM for members.

If you want to go to one of these matches with the gang from Crooked Creek, fill out your application and send it to me with your check. That is usually how we can create a squad and keep the gang together.

Our next match will be on Sunday, August 28^th  at Crooked Creek in Hartsgrove. Setup will be on Saturday, August 27^th starting at 1:30 PM. You can shoot one gun after setup. We'll be on the fourth Sunday the rest of the year. Mark your calendars.

Signups for Sunday start at 7:15AM. We will run two (2) squads on Sunday at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. I have help with Registration now, so don't show up late and expect to get into a squad. Please arrive in time to register, gear-up and be ready to shoot at 8:00AM. I will try to design the stages to keep us on schedule so that you don't have to wait for the second squad. The last squad will help with teardown.
