April 25, 2010 Newsletter

Well, the weatherman didn't miss the forecast this time. But, we were really pretty lucky. Only a light rain on Saturday while were shooting the last stage and little mist just before we started on Sunday. Let's all think sunshine for May.

We had 37 shooters and 11 reshoots for a total of 48 guns. Not bad considering the weather and all of the shooters that went to Gem City for the RO Class. Send in your tests so we can spread out the RO duties next month! <G> Also, please let me know when you receive your RO card so I can update the database.

Here's the breakdown by division.

The scorekeepers did pretty good this month, I only had to add up the scores a few times. Remember to review your scoresheet and make sure that your hits add up and that the time is recorded.

We had seven (7) new shooters this month: Don Jacobson, Rick Veil, John Blike, Sam Williams, Wayne Johnson, Brian Johnson and Bill Sturtevant.

Matt Birch and Jeff Whitaker have offered to hold a new shooters orientation class on Saturday, May 22nd. We'll start at 9:00 AM and the new shooters will get to run 2 stages after the classroom session is done. If you know someone that might like to shoot USPSA, here's an opportunity to introduce them to the sport.

LOST & FOUND (holdover from 2009)

1 small Buck knife with USPSA Area 8 inscribed on the blade.

Para Ordinance mag and box of 40 S&W ammo.

If you don't pick it up at the next match, I'm giving it away!

If you now see a U for your classification, then maybe your membership has lapsed. USPSA has instituted a new policy. If you let your membership lapse for more than 60 days, you will lose your classification. If you want to keep your classification, please keep your membership current. Remember, if you sign up for (or renew) a USPSA membership at the match, you can shoot the match for free (that's like getting your USPSA membership for $25).

For the new members, when you receive your first issue of Front Sight, use the PIN on the cover to sign up to receive an e-mail notification when results are posted to the USPSA Local and Major Match results page. Our results are always posted to the USPSA Local Match Results first. It takes a little while to massage the junk HTML pages that come out of EzWinScore.

Don't forget to let me know when you change your membership type. I had two RO's change their membership and I found out when I went to update the classifications. That just slows down the process to post the scores. I have to stop and get confirmation of the membership number changes.

We also have Crooked Creek Conservation Club applications. Ask Bill, Ed or myself for one if you are interested in joining. We hold a pistol practice on Wednesday evening starting about 4:00 PM for members.

I still have Muff Sweats for sale. 1 pair is $14 and two or more are $13 each. See Atto, Ed or Bud at registration if you would like a pair or two.

Our next match will be on Sunday, April 25th at Crooked Creek in Hartsgrove. Setup will be on Saturday, April 24th starting at 1:30 PM. You can shoot one gun after setup. And we will continue the practice of running one classifier each match. Now, you don't have any reason not to be classified before that big match.

Signups for Sunday start at 7:30AM. We will run two (2) squads on Sunday at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Please arrive in time to register, gear-up and be ready to shoot at 8:00AM. I will try to design the stages to keep us on schedule so that you don't have to wait for the second squad. The last squad will help with teardown.
