May 25, 2008 Newsletter

A perfect weekend for shooting and a very good turnout for a holiday weekend. We even had our first Ladies Super Squad on Sunday. We had 58 shooters and 12 reshoots for a total of 70 guns.

We had six new shooters this month: Robert A. Munz, Larry Capitoni, Joe Svonavec, Kris & Doug Johnston and Robert Burnham.

We had four DQ's in this match. That is 5 too many. Two 180 violations and two AD's while reloading. Watch the 180! If you go to a bigger match you will likely run into a stage that you have to back up or move left to right that will push the 180. As for the AD's, KEEP YOUR FINGER OUT OF THE TRIGGER GUARD WHEN RELOADING! The same advice goes for when you are moving and not engaging targets. Put your trigger finger up along the frame of the gun.

What's your opinion on using the paster guns to paste targets? Like them or hate them, please let me know. If you don't know how to work the paster gun, ask someone to show you how. The biggest problem we had with them occurred when tearing the tape off using the serrated edge at the back of the gun. Sometimes the tape gets hung up and the paster gun jams. Tear off the tape about an inch outside of the track and it will run all day. So, the moral of the story is, if you want to finish faster, pick up a paster gun and use it, or help reset steel.

If you sign up for (or renew) a USPSA membership at the match, you can shoot the match for free (that's like getting your USPSA membership for $25). For the new members, when you receive your first issue of Front Sight, use the PIN on the cover to sign up to receive e-mail notification when results are posted to the USPSA Local and Major Match results page. Our results are always posted to the USPSA Local Match Results first. It takes a little while to massage the HTML pages that come out of EzWinScore.

We also have Crooked Creek Conservation Club applications. Ask Bill, Ed or myself for one if you are interested in joining. We hold a pistol practice on Wednesday evening starting about 4:00 PM for members.

I still have Muff Sweats for sale. 1 pair is $14 and two or more are $13 each. See Atto at registration if you would like a pair.

Our next match will be on Sunday, June 22nd at Crooked Creek in Hartsgrove. Setup will be on Saturday, June 21st starting at 1:30 PM. And we will continue the practice of running one classifier each match. Now, you don't have any reason not to be classified before that big match.

Signups for Sunday start at 7:30AM. We will run two (2) squads on Sunday at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Please arrive in time to register, gear-up and be ready to shoot. I will try to design the stages to keep us on schedule so that you don't have to wait for the second squad. The last squad will help with teardown. I would like to run more squads, or at least finish faster. We purchased four (4) target paster guns this winter. All we need is for you to help reset the stage for the next shooter. I hope the target paster guns will help.

Crooked Creek Conservation Club members: The shelter in the right side pistol bays is almost complete. We need people to paint the shelter and move gravel under the shelter to bring the level up. There should only be one more Tuesday night (start around 4:30 PM) work detail to finish up the shelter.
