March 30, 2008 Newsletter

Well, better late than never. Too many outages and not enough sleep, but now that USPSA has updated EzWinScore (fixed a registration bug), I can finally catch up. Good turnout for our first March match. Some diehards didn't let a little snow on the ground stop them from coming out. We had 30 shooters and 16 reshoots for a total of 46 guns.

We had four new shooters this month: David Nolen, Mike Cardilli, Bob Snyder and Craig J. Swindell.

I hope we can hang some cardboard in April. We also have some new step activators that we'll use when the ground hardens up a little bit. And we will continue the practice of running one classifier each match. Now, you don't have any reason not to be classified before that big match.

If you sign up for (or renew) USPSA membership at the match, you can shoot the match for free (that's like getting your USPSA membership for $25). For the new members, when you receive your first issue of Front Sight, use the PIN on the cover to sign up to receive e-mail notification when results are posted to the USPSA Local and Major Match results page. Our results are always posted to the USPSA Local Match Results first. It takes a little while to massage the HTML pages that come out of EzWinScore.

We also have Crooked Creek Conservation Club applications. Ask Bill, Ed or myself for one if you are interested in joining. We hold a pistol practice on Wednesday evening starting about 4:00 PM for members.

Our next match will be on Sunday, April 27th at Crooked Creek in Hartsgrove. Setup will be on Saturday, April 26th starting at 1:30 PM.

Signups for Sunday start at 7:30AM. We will run two (2) squads on Sunday at 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. Please arrive in time to get into a squad. The last squad will help with teardown. I would like to run more squads, or at least finish faster. We purchased four (4) target paster guns this winter. All we need is for you to help reset the stage for the next shooter. I hope the target paster guns will help.

Crooked Creek Conservation Club members: The club will be building a shelter over the two inner benches on the pistol bays and removing some dirt from the end of the middle berm. This work detail will take place Tuesday afternoons/evenings (after work around 4 or 5PM) starting in May (or as ground conditions permit). This should give us a place to do signups, get out of the rain or into some shade and add a good Safety Area. Please call or e-mail if you have any questions. This is our chance to show the club that we will help out and that we our interested in improving the club. We need to build some good will for the pistol shooters if we will ever to be able to add some additional pistol bays.
